At Hope Crossing Animal Hospital, we provide a full range of services. One service we promote is preventive medicine, which helps prevent illness and keep your pet healthy. It may also protect you from zoonotic disease, or those illnesses passed from animals to people. We offer in-house and reference laboratory blood work, including complete blood counts, chemistry panels and thyroid tests. This can be performed and interpreted to try and understand why your pet is not performing at their peak. Fluid and drug therapy can also be instituted to correct any underlying problem that may be found.
Surgery
A wide range of surgeries can be performed at Hope Crossing Animal Hospital. The most common surgeries to be performed are spays and neuters. We can perform these potentially life saving surgeries on pets as young as 12 weeks, when needed. Other typical surgeries are growth removals, laceration repairs and exploratory surgery. All orthopedic surgery is referred to specialists.
Other Services
Other services provided include dental care, radiology services, hospitalization, bathing and grooming. Our facility contains a separate, comfortable grooming room where we provide baths and general grooming for your pet. Senior pets are very important to the staff and doctor, and these special pets need extra special care. Most pets are considered seniors at around 7 years of age. At this time, performing laboratory testing and more frequent physical examinations can help find problems early and aid in optimal treatment for his or her condition. Early diagnosis and intervention can help stave off more severe problems later in life.

Why does my indoor only cat need to see the vet?
Cats are excellent at doing many things, but they are best at hiding signs of illness from their people. They know through instinct that if they show that they are not well, they may be prey for someone soon. This makes it hard to tell what is really going on with your feline. Recently an indoor-only cat came if for her physical exam. The owner was not aware of any problems with her cat, as she was eating well, drinking well, not having behavior problems or litterbox issues. A comprehensive physical exam revealed that this kitty had a heart murmur, dental disease and high thyroid levels. With accurate diagnostics and treatment, this cat will continue to thrive and live for many, many years. If your cat has not been seen by a veterinarian in the past year, please call today to schedule an appointment.
Heart disease and dental disease can go hand in hand. The tartar on the teeth is made of plaque, which is made of bacteria. The gums and gingiva are inflamed, leading to bleeding. This bleeding is a path for the oral bacteria to go into the blood stream and eventually travel to the heart. The bacteria infect the heart valves (called endocarditis) and can cause heart murmurs. This is why continuing vigilant oral care is very important, especially to our older pets.
